The usual treatments for migraines are painkillers and some type of anti sickness medication. These can be bought over the counter or can be prescribed by a medical practitioner particularly if the causes are severe.

One recommendation seems to be that the sufferer should make a note of what was eaten prior to the attack and what his lifestyle was like and see if there is some common factor which he may then be able to limit and hence reduce the problems.

Often sufferers find the only way is go and lie down in a darkened room.

If the sufferer is susceptable to very severe migraine then a doctor may prescribe tablets, spray or injections to combat the condition but as the attacks are not really predictable then in these severe cases it is essential to have the medication at hand. It is almost certain that the patient would be prescribed some preventive medication to help limit the times when the attacks occur.
