Memory Loss Causes
Once you reach adulthood your brain starts to lose cells at a small rate. Your body makes less of the chemicals required to stimulate the brain and make the cells work. As people get older so this effects the memory and typically people start to forget names and details in particular from recent times. The short term memory is usually OK and the long term particularly childhood memories are quite good.

Things to do that may help
It appears that keeping the brain active and trained can help considerably and so that is a good place to start. Some exercises are as follows:-
1) Keep repeating names of people you wish to remember particularly when you first meet them.
2) Put things in a routine place so they do not get lost.
3) Keep to a standard routine
4) Plan what you are going to do and write it down. Keep a diary.
5) Keep your mind active
6) Try word associations to give yourself two chances of remembering a word. Particularly using an association which is important to you.
Remember the word usually comes back in time so be patient.
Can other things cause Memory Loss?
Yes, other illnesses such as Alzheimers disease can cause memory loss, strokes, accidents involving the head, drugs both medical and recreational and alcohol. These problems need dealing with according to the cause but generally are involved with treatments for other problems.
