This is probably the most worrying problem of all for young couples and the amount of information available is almost overwhelming as the causes are numerous and treatments similar. Even to find out if there is a problem takes a while and by the time the couple realise there is a problem a great deal stress is already present.
One very positive ray of hope is that it has just been announced that a testing kit for male and female infertilty testing that can be bought over the counter is now available. This can be tried easily and whilst expensive it will give an early indication of potential problems which can then be professionally assessed and if possible an answer found.
It is important to take the right advice and there are many very good fertility clinics who can assess the problem and try and find a suitable treatment. Obviously the first contact will be with your medical practitioner and afterwards a fertility clinic. Check to find one that has a good record if possible find people who have had similar problems and pick the best fertility clinic for you.

Causes of Infertility
The problems of infertility can be both with the male or female although the problem level is higher in women and both partners can have problems.
Female infertility
There are many different causes for women and the main ones are listed below:-
1) Ovulatory dysfunction accounts for about 20% of the problems and is the most common and is caused by problem with the release of the egg at the monthly ovulation.
2) Tubal infertility is the next most common and is caused by damage or abnormality in the fallopian tube.
3) Endometriosis which occurs when cells lining the uterine cavity grow outside the body of the uterus. It is often difficult to diagnose and it os believed that this may be a much more prevalent cause because of this difficulty.
4) Immune problems where a womens immune systems can it is claimed cause infertility. This has been a controversial type but the claims are getting more robust
There are others that are rarer cases.
Male Infertility
The male infertility can be due to several reasons but unlike the female the causes only affect the testes. This helps in the treatment and the succes rate of reversing or dealing with the infertility is quite high. It is usually the degree of fertility that is lower
Unexplained infertility
There is something like 30% of the cases of infertility for which a cause cannot be located. In many cases this is thought to be due to an undetected case of Endometriosis or other such case. When this conclusion is reached the physicians treat it by trying treatments on a logical trial an error basis.
Infertility Clinics
Infertility Clinics have achieved a great level of success in many of these areas not only in the fact of producing a child but in controlling and limiting the size of the multiple births.
Infertility Treatments
1) Ovulation Induction happens when the woman receives fertility medication by mouth or injection to stimulate her ovulation process and either start or improve ovulation in order for her to become pregnant. The system works well with the right patient but there are risks of multiple births.
2) Artificial insemination is where a partners semen is introduced directly into the uterus. This is also helps when the partners semen is a little abnormal. It often accompanies Ovulation Induction. It can also be used for a donors semen.
3) Surgical treatments may be necessary when there is an abnormality that requires treatment but many of the operations which were done in the past are now not required as IVF processes will achieve the same results.
4) IVF (in-vitro fertilisation) is used where eggs are taken from a woman surgically after use of infertilty drugs. These eggs are then fertilised in the laboratory with a partners sperm and the embryos which come from this a re examined for a few days and when the cells have reached a set stage they are then transferred back to the uterus.
5) Surgical treatment can sometimes be required to alter abnormalities.
6) Drug treatment may be required for men as well as women.
