Looking for Dental Assistant Advice?
A career as a dental assistant has become quite a good and
respected position with most dentists . The dental assistant is a dental health
professional who carries out a wide range duties from patient care, laboratory
duties and administration. They usually work with the dentist as he examines and
treats patients. They often prepare the patient for treatment and maintain the
recording system. They would normally pass the instruments and assist in keeping
the mouth clear and the sterilization of equipment. They may well be involved in
the X-ray procedures as well as the day to day operation of the office.
The more advanced and qualified assistants may prepare
materials for impressions and restorations, Remove sutures and apply
anaesthetics to the appropriate areas and take and process X-Rays. In the
laboratory they may make and progress the cast taken from teeth and make
temporary crowns.
Qualifications and Training
These vary dependent on the amount of work that is
carried out by the dentist the amount that is contracted out and the size of
the practice. It is usual to find a dental nurse helping with the dental
chair assistance and many will have qualified through the standard hospital
nursing programmes. There are however several other colleges and academic
institutes which train for the dental practice alone. The business side of
the practice may well r3quire individual training on the systems used in
house.
