First things first if you donate to charity not only are you helping the needy but in both the USA & UK you can offset your charity donation against tax. In the USA you can even do a car donation whereby you donate your car to charity and offset the whole car donation against tax. We are investigating if car danotions can be offset against tax in the UK.
Whenever you make a charity donation you should ensure that you ask for written information about how the charity operates and how much of your charity donation will actually reach the needy and how much will be spent on administration. Any legitimate charity should give this information willingly if they don't then take your money elsewhere. Also ask for proof that your charity donation is tax deductible.
